The original PHANTASM featured a Triple black 1971 Plymouth ’Cuda. Man, was she a beauty. Many people fell in love with Mopar because of how cool that car looked (and sounded!) on screen.
We sure would love to drive the Cuda over to Dunes for a beer someday.
By now we have come to understand that the Phantasm Cuda was probably junked or destroyed after filming and is now lost to the ages. But right on YouTube is the very last confirmed sighting of the Mopar muscle car. Automotive enthusiast Juan Marchant tracked down an old episode of the NBC hit series CHiPs and spotted the Phantasm car sitting in the background at a used car lot location.
This blows our mind! Unbeknownst to everybody the Phantasm Cuda was just hanging out in the background of this early 80s TV episode on a used car lot! We have to wonder did Larry Wilcox or Erik Estrada take the PHANTASM cuda for a joy ride? Was this the CHiPs-PHANTASM crossover that NOBODY knew they wanted but actually sounds pretty cool???
