Don Coscarelli adapted Joe R. Lansdale's short story for Showtime's anthology series Masters of Horror (created by Mick Garris) and featuring episodes directed by fellow genre legends including John Carpenter, Dario Argento, and Tobe Hooper. With Bree Turner, Ethan Embry, and longtime Coscarelli collaborator Angus Scrimm in the cast, production faced the challenge of condensing Lansdale's survival thriller into a tight 51-minute episode. The episode premiered as the series opener in October 2005, setting the tone for Showtime's ambitious horror showcase.
